Painting tips
Choosing colours for a Queenslander

Three things to check before you commit: the roof, the light, and what the street looks like.
Start with the roof
The roof is the biggest colour on the house and the hardest to change. Pick walls and trim that work with it.
Test big, test outside
A paint chip under kitchen lights tells you little. Paint a swatch the size of a door on the wall and look at it at 8am and 4pm.
Trim does the heavy lifting
On a Queenslander, the trim, battens and balustrades carry the character. A clean white or a deep heritage colour on the trim can lift a simple wall colour.
